Hi! I’m Gabriella, I’m a Northern deaf actor, writer and access consultant. I have been lucky enough to work across stage and screen since 2016, some favourites include Lucy Kirkwood’s Maryland (2022 film), and more recently Blanche McIntyre’s Antony and Cleopatra at Shakespeare’s Globe (2024) in BSL and Spoken English. I’m best known for playing Nurse Jade Lovall, as the first deaf regular on BBC’s Casualty (2018-2021). My main episode contributed to a BAFTA for Best Continuing Drama 2021. I’m a huge advocate for championing better, authentic disability representation on our screens and stages, where disability isn’t the central aspect of the character. In my day-to-day life you’d find me with my head in a book, spouting obscure historical facts or petting dogs.

I attended my first in person DANC event January 2019 as one of the panel speakers, it was my first time meeting TripleC’s Core team and being absorbed into DANC’s rich, and wonderful community. TripleC are an immense organisation, and deserving of all the accolades and recognition that comes their way. I am thrilled to be one of TripleC’s deaf access leads and one of DANCS’s access ambassadors. Through TripleC’s support and advocacy, I have consulted on several HETV productions, providing site specific deaf awareness training and deaf access consultancy on how to create the best working environment for deaf creatives on set – from pre-production, all the way through to post. In my access work with TripleC I am particularly interested in challenging perspectives of the deaf spectrum and what does that spectrum look like in front and behind the camera.
